POINT 13 | La ligne bleue | #HamiltonVilleAccueillante
MESA| 255 James St N, Hamilton
A Mexican restaurant, a product of its time.
"A Mexican restaurant that's very much a product of its time, with a little "new age" flair that assumes itself with funny slogans like "Balance your chakras with a meal from MESA!"
From the street, one can admire through the large windows the beautiful mural that adorns the side wall of this lovely restaurant.
Very much a product of its time, Mesa (which means "table" in Spanish) can adapt most of its dishes to offer gluten-free, vegetarian or vegan versions (no problem with the margaritas, they're suitable for everyone!).
Mexican food is authentic, tasty and made with fresh ingredients!
As of 2016, Hamilton had 7,335 Latin American-born immigrants (of which only 865 were Mexican). Mesa's local clientele has been loyal to it since 2015.
BEHIND THE SCENES
Another experienced woman!
Veronica Sanchez moved here from Mexico when she was a teenager. Prior to opening Mesa, she was the chef of the Mex-I-Can restaurant on James St N. This family business had to close due to structural problems with the building.
With all the experience she had gained at the popular restaurant, she decided to take a chance and open Mesa in 2015. Since she was already known and Hamiltonians were craving her good, tasty food, it was a hit from the start.
In 2021, she decided to open Lola Latin Grocery (245 James St N), a fun grocery store stocked with Latin foods and funky items, to complement her restaurant.
FOR THE CURIOUS
Everyone gets off (or on)!
The City of Hamilton has resumed its free summer shuttle service (June 26 - September 5, 2022)!
The exact replica of the HSR (Hamilton Street Railway) runs daily along James St N. King St, looping around to cover York and Bay and going to the Hamilton Waterfront. The closest stop to Mesa is north of Barton St E.
It can be boarded every 30 minutes between 10am and 9pm (wheelchair accessible). Temporary signs mark the stops: www.hamilton.ca/hsr
NOTE: The Hamilton Waterfront is one of the TOP-10 suggestions for enjoying Hamilton outside of La Ligne Bleue.
